Snapshots:: Durham, UK

The city of Durham is so lovely. The cathedral, the castle and the university buildings, which dominate a lot of the city, really come together to create a splendid place. For the time being I am staying not so far from Durham  centre so this lovely city is only a short bus ride away.

The market square with a modern day carousel and some lovely market stalls selling homemade cakes and handmade spoons.

A gorgeous two colour cowl that is perfect for those days with a biting chill. This would look lovely in any colour or as a quick whip-up gift.

Another cowl. But what I like about this is how it dips into the triangular shape at the bottom. Often I wear a cowl and I can feel the breeze nipping at the back of my neck and finding its way through an opening at the front of my coat, but this cowl can be tucked in and will keep your neck warm. This is definitely on my “to-make” list, though I think I would tweek it a little and add a bit of colour, perhaps a motif around the bottom.

I love this waist length feminine cardi. It’s a perfect fit, not too oversized that it’s resigned to being worn on Bed Days or Lazy Days but it’s perfect for a day at work or a casual meal with friends. I have yet to knit an actual garment and I do plan to, so I’ve saved this one for later! So many projects so little time.

Look at the colours! Look at the pattern! It’s almost like an optical illusion but somehow it works. I like.

Etsy:: Hidden Gems – Whales

I would love to go whale watching – I intend to at some point – and see these spectacular creatures in the seemingly limitless landscape of the open ocean. There is something about those magnificent giants that fills me with wonder.

This little brooch is derived from a vintage print and I just love it! A little unusual but funky all the same.

Who doesn’t love notebooks? This beauty, printed on recycled paper, is absolutely perfect for half filling with lists and plans and doodles then left on the desk to be admired. Naughty notebook hoarders!

Knitting:: Favourite Things Scarf… Update

Anytime we board a bus/coach/train/ferry/horse and cart (kidding) I get out my needles.

As you can see it’s coming along nicely, even the patterns I designed myself are working well! Did you guess that it would be a stack of books?! I really wanted to include reading/books on my scarf because that is one of my main passions. Some things I pick up and put down but I always, always have a book on me. Sometimes two.
I scoured the internet looking for a book related pattern but found nothing! So I took to my trusty little graph notepad (absolute lifesaver) and designed my own stack of books. Resembling the to-be-read stack by my bed.

I’m still unsure about how long it’s going to be or whether it will be summer by the time I finish and far to warm to wear but I still have a lot of motifs jotted down and plenty I want to knit up so I’m going to continue until it’s at least over a meter.

Have any of you made a favourite things scarf? Leave a link in the comment below and I’ll come and check it out!
Would anyone like me to upload the motifs I’ve made?

Thanks for reading!
